Now, the E Street Band’s “heart-stopping, earth-quaking, air-conditioner shaking” drummer “Mighty Max” Weinberg will get a chance to see who’s really “The Boss.”
On Thursday night, Mar. 27, the legendary timekeeper best known for his longtime association with Bruce Springsteen will perform at the seventh annual J Live event honoring community leader Myrna E. Cardin with the JCC Bezalel Leadership Award.
Open to the public, J Live will be held at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts, 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue in Owings Mills.
The event raises funds to provide assistance for individuals and families to participate in JCC programming. The JCC provides more than $330,000 in financial assistance each year to approximately 700 families.

Starting at 7:30 p.m., J Live will include a grand patron pre-show dinner, dessert reception and presentation of the award to Cardin, a longtime community leader and devoted volunteer.
A concert will follow featuring Weinberg and his four-piece band. They will perform his “Jukebox Tour,” playing such classic tunes from the glory days of rock ‘n’ roll as “Mony Mony,” “Fortunate Son” and “Johnny B. Goode.” (The Newark, New Jersey-born Weinberg, 73, and his E Street bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.)
A Baltimore native, Cardin’s connection to the JCC originated as a camper. She was on the founding committee of JCC Associates, the volunteer arm of the JCC, and served as JCC board chair from 1993 to 1995.
In 1992, Cardin served on the steering committee for the first Maccabi Games in Baltimore and co-chaired the Housing Committee. Over the years, she has been a champion of arts and cultural programming at the JCC and the Gordon Center.
“I am deeply honored to receive the JCC’s Bezalel Leadership Award,” said Cardin, who has been married to former Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin for 60 years. “As a lifelong member, the JCC has been a cornerstone in my life, providing a welcoming and enriching destination for my children and grandchildren. I am truly grateful for the JCC’s vital role in fostering connections, celebrating diversity, and creating a community where everyone feels valued and included.”
Besides the JCC, Cardin has served as past president of the Baltimore Jewish Council, The Associated’s Baltimore Jewish Life Lead Team and the Baltimore Hebrew Institute Advisory Committee at Towson University. She is also a past board member of Jewish Community Services and Acharai (now known as Na’aleh).

“We are so excited to honor Myrna at this year’s J Live at the Gordon ,” said Barak Hermann, the JCC’s chief executive officer. “Myrna has been an exemplary volunteer and leader in both the Jewish community and the community at large.
“We also know that Max Weinberg and his band performing their Jukebox Tour will have people dancing in their seats,” Hermann said. “I am thrilled that J Live can celebrate the JCC’s impact in the community while also raising vital funds for financial assistance, so no one is turned away because of an inability to pay. “
