Norman “Fred” Silber, who owned and operated Silber Photography in Pikesville for more than four decades, passed away on Monday, Apr. 7. The Pikesville resident was 75.
With his wife, Linda, Silber specialized in events, portraits, commercial and corporate photography.
In 2011, he and his sister, Benita “Beeny” Finkelstein. published a coffee table book,” A Dozen Roses,” which combined his photography and her original poetry. The book was dedicated to the memory of their mother, Kay Silber, who died of breast cancer in 1966 when they were teenagers. Portions of the sales of the books were donated to breast cancer treatment programs.
Three of Silber’s watercolor pieces from the book are on permanent display at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center and the St. Agnes Hospital Breast Cancer Center.
“For generations, Fred touched the lives of everyone he met and captured life’s most treasured moments with his camera while lighting up the room with his beautiful smile, warm spirit, creative eye and sense of humor,” his family wrote on the website of Sol Levinson & Bros. “He was generous of spirit, loyal and devoted to friends, to family, and to the entire community. He filled our lives with sunshine, love and a sprinkle of mischief, and will be greatly missed.”

Silber is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Linda Silber (nee Schuster); his daughters, Kara Silber and Julie (Jon) Zerivitz; his siblings, Benita “Beeny” (Roy) Finkelstein, Brian Silber, Amy (Howard) Mazer; his brother-in-law Arnold “Arnie” Schuster; his grandchildren, Hannah Weinstein, Naomi Weinstein, Sadie Zerivitz, and Ruby Zerivitz; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Max Weinstein; brother, Danny Silber; and parents, Kay and Samuel Silber.
Services will be held at Sol Levinson’s Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, on Wednesday, Apr. 9, at 2:30 pm. Interment will be at Beth El Memorial Park, 9633 Liberty Road in Randallstown.

The family will be in mourning at 3607 Barberry Court in Pikesville on Wednesday following interment with a service at 7 p.m., and on Thursday from noon until 4 with a service at 7.
Shiva will continue at 1 Pomona East, apt. 304, in Pikesville on Friday from noon until 4.
“Fred’s love of family and friends defined his life,” his family wrote. “He cherished family trips to the beach, supported everyone’s arts and sports events and gatherings, and he was an ever-present cheerleader in our lives — our rock and our center. Everyone who knew him said they were lucky to know him, but Fred always said he was the luckiest.”
