The property of Kitchen Design by Idan has been defaced by anti-Israel vandalism for the fourth time, said the owner of the Mount Washington business.
The interior design company at 6072 Falls Road is owned and operated by Idan Tzameret, an Israeli-American who proudly displays the Israeli and U.S. flags outside of his establishment.
On Wednesday night, Aug,. 6, surveillance footage showed a man with a beard and glasses approaching the store around midnight and tossing red paint on the flags and across the establishment’s walkway and entrance.
“Good morning and happy birthday to me. Nothing better to do than waiting for the police at 7 am,” Tzameret, 46, posted on social media. “Now time to file a report, clean, put up a new flag and have a fantastic day. Because there is no [expletive] in the world that can make this day bad for me.”
Tzameret told Jmore ,“This is the first time where I have a clear picture of the person who did it. I hope the police use their resources and find him. They have always been very compliant and helpful whenever I report things like these. …
“I have very thick skin because it is not the first time this happened to me,” he said. “It’s the fourth time I’ve filed a police report, but every week there is a little sticker left on my door, either [stating] ‘Free Palestine’ or ‘Stop the Genocide’ or ‘[expletive] Israel.’ I don’t report these. Not everybody has to support Israel, but damaging property is serious.
“I take pride in my dual citizenship,” said Tzameret. “I want to show my pride in my own [community] bubble without things like these happening.”
In an email, Caren Leven, executive director of the Baltimore Zionist District, called the matter “a deeply disturbing and targeted act of antisemitic vandalism. … Baltimore needs to show that it will not tolerate hate, silence, or inaction. Our leaders must stand up, speak out, and ensure this is treated with the urgency and seriousness it demands.
“This was not a random act. This was an intentional, hate-motivated attack designed to intimidate, shame, and silence. We are calling on all of you, our elected leaders and voices in the media, to publicly condemn this act, ensure it is investigated and prosecuted as a hate crime, and stand visibly and vocally with the Jewish community.”
An avid runner, Tzameret was profiled in Jmore in late 2023 after taking to local streets running with an Israeli flag. A Beth El congregant who lives in Pikesville with his wife and two children, Tzameret started running with the flag after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
Tzameret, a former officer in the Israel Defense Forces, said he welcomes discourse about the Middle East.
“They are welcome to come and confront me personally,” he said of the vandals who defaced his establishment in May of 2024. “I will have a conversation with anyone, but again I am not going to spray red or green or whatever color on a Palestinian flag, and they don’t have the right to do that to my property or my flag. There’s no room for hate, there’s no room for antisemitism.”
On social media, Baltimore County Councilman Izzy Patoka (D-2nd) posted, “When it comes to expressions of hate, there can be no tolerance. Today, I learned that a small business in our district, Kitchen Design by Idan, was the target of an apparent antisemitic act of vandalism. A report has been filed with the Baltimore County Police Department.
“Antisemitism has no place in our county, state or country. We must continue to call it out and speak with moral clarity.”
