The Danish phrase leg godt — from which the Denmark-based Lego toy brand gets its name — translates as “play well.” And play well is exactly what they did on the fifth night of Chanukah at the Owings Mills Jewish Community Center at the “Legos, Latkes and Lights’ gathering.
More than 300 people dropped by on Thursday night, Dec. 18, to celebrate the Festival of Lights and and attempt to build the world’s tallest Lego brick menorah. (According to the “Guinness Book of World Records,” the tallest LEGO brick menorah was built in Tel Aviv in 2022, standing 14.9 feet tall and requiring 134,908 LEGO bricks and 1,910 LEGO plates.)
Besides Lego fun, the event featured a latkes dinner, light shows and a take-home mini-Lego menorah, all thanks to the sponsorship of Phyllis and Leonard Attman & Family. There was also a community menorah lighting, music and dancing, as well as inflatable playgrounds, bubbles, balloons, face-painting and more.
The BCO, founded in 1984, will perform the works of Frank Zappa, Beethoven, Mason Bates and Karena Ingram.
