Civic and community leaders of Ashkelon — Baltimore’s partner city in Israel since 2003 — gathered on Wednesday, Jan. 21, to celebrate the dedication of Yahadut Baltimore Square in honor of Marc B. Terrill, past president and CEO of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore.
The dedication of the traffic roundabout was a tribute to Terrill’s founding of and commitment to the Baltimore-Ashkelon partnership. Also in attendance were past and present leaders, partnership co-chairs, lay leaders, friends and family members.
In his remarks, Terrill, who is host of Jmore’s “Marc My Word” podcast, said the roundabout beautifully reflected the vibrancy and strong ties between two communities. With traffic roundabouts, he noted, some travelers enter and stay while others pass through for a time, but the movement and connection continue.
A southern city on the Mediterranean coast with a population of approximately 161,000 residents, Ashkelon is known for utilizing roundabouts not only as traffic management tools but also as a means of enhancing the city’s beauty through different civic and arts-related installations throughout the area.

Roundabouts often feature biblical, maritime and nature-themed installations, and frequently serve as public squares.
A committed philanthropist and community leader, Russel was president of R&H Motors.
The mother of four was a native of Winchester, Virginia, who spent most of her life in Northwest Baltimore.
The remaining 6,000 members of the community are expected to immigrate by 2030.
The Columbia resident worked on the Gemini and Apollo space missions.
