The Pikesville Armory Foundation recently announced a $2 million matching grant (1:1) from the Baltimore-based Harvey M. Meyerhoff Fund, which is part of the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds.
The grant is aimed at catalyzing fundraising to build a state-of-the-art, Americans with Disabilities Act-friendly playground, tree-lined walking path, and events lawn and stage at the historic armory property, at 640 Reisterstown Road.
Groundbreaking for this phase of the project is scheduled for later this year.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Harvey M. Meyerhoff Fund and confident this matching grant will inspire many philanthropists and community members to support the historic redevelopment of the Pikesville Armory campus,” said Shelley Morhaim, president of the PAF’s board of directors. “By providing this matching grant, the fund is making a statement: it takes a community to bring this project to life.”

The grant will activate the main Armory building’s third floor, named in honor of businessman and philanthropist Harvey M. “Bud” Meyerhoff, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 96.
David Ginsburg, the PAF’s executive director, invited community members to embrace the opportunity to maximize the fund’s generosity.
“The impact of your generous gift to this transformative community project will be doubled,” he said. “The Harvey M. Meyerhoff Fund will match dollar-for-dollar contributions of $50,000 or more from private donors to Phase 2 of this project.”
The PAF is leading the transformation of the armory into a 17-acre arts-infused, cross-generational community hub, which will include numerous community amenities, from the Pikesville Senior Center to a maker space for workforce development initiatives.
Last year, the PAF marked a major milestone with the grand opening of the renovated NCO Club, the first completed phase in a multi-year adaptive reuse project positively impacting Northwest Baltimore.
The second phase of the redevelopment project will kick off this year, encompassing primarily outdoor features including sports fields, a walking path, and a state-of-the-art, ADA-friendly destination playground, with public art throughout the grounds.
Subsequent phases include an expanded senior center, indoor athletic recreation, an events venue, a community theater and more.
