A former high school STEM instructor at Bnos Yisroel of Baltimore, an all-girls Orthodox day school in Park Heights, was rearrested Nov. 15 and charged with rape and incest, only a few days after being released on bond following an arrest for child pornography offenses, according to Jewish media reports.
William Zev Steen, a Northwest Baltimore resident, was terminated by Bnos Yisroel when Baltimore Police authorities charged him Nov. 5 with 15 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography. Steen also ran TAG Baltimore, which provides internet filtering services.
Court records reportedly show that Steen, 44, was rearrested due to an alleged incident in December of 2005. The new charges include first-degree rape, sex abuse of a minor, assault and child abuse.
According to charging documents, one victim was five years old, while the other victims were either six or seven years old.
Steen is currently being held at Central Booking without bond. Trial dates for both sets of charges are in early December.
Steen was reportedly the focus of an investigation after linked to websites sharing child pornography, state police said. A search of his laptop and external hard drive determined he possessed “numerous” child porn files.
“We are horrified and saddened to have to write and share this letter,” Bnos Yisroel officials said in a statement. “It is important to recognize that this traumatic experience presents an opportunity to have a conversation with your child about personal safety. We will continue to communicate with you, our parents, and our partners, as necessary.”
According to his LinkedIn page, Steen began teaching at Bnos Yisroel of Baltimore in 2017.
Police detectives request that anyone with information on this matter should reach out to Sgt. William A. Currie of Baltimore Police Department. He can be reached at 443-938-0466.
