Alas, it turned out to be a wet night in the city.
Sukkah City, that is.
The inaugural Sukkah City event at the Owings Mills Jewish Community Center was a rather soggy affair, but approximately 250 intrepid souls didn’t let the inclement weather stop them from turning out for the rain-or-shine event on Sept. 27, held on the lower fields of the JCC to celebrate the harvest holiday of Sukkot.
The free, four-hour event offered an array of 13 sukkahs hosted by myriad synagogues, organizations, businesses and others. Attendees were encouraged to bring their own picnic dinners for an evening of food, friends and fun.
Despite the dreary weather, folks gathered under a big tent and enjoyed Israeli games and songs, crafts and tchochkes, Ultimate Frisbee and cornhole, live music, lots of noshes indigenous to Charm City, beer, PJ Our Way storytime, holiday prayer demonstrations, Sukkot Trivia and more.
Sukkot ends this Sunday night, Sept. 30, to be followed by the holidays of Shemini Atzeret on Oct. 1 and Simchat Torah on Oct. 2.
