Abigail Goldman, Veteran of City Board of Elections, Dies at 63

Abigail Goldman, who played a vital role in the supervision of Baltimore City elections for more than four decades, passed away last Saturday, May 9. The Baltimore resident was 63.

A 1980 graduate of the Bais Yaakov School for Girls and Baltimore City Community College, Goldman served as deputy director of the Baltimore Board of Elections. She served on that board for 43 years, playing a part in more than 50 elections and working on such issues as voter registration, judge recruitment and training

“Over her long career she was known for her integrity, steady leadership, and commitment to fair and accessible elections,” her family posted on the website of Sol Levinson & Bros. “Abigail mentored countless colleagues, modernized procedures, and earned the respect of voters and officials across the community. Family and friends remember Abigail for her warmth, steady counsel, quick wit, and unwavering belief in the importance of public service.”

Last year, the Maryland Association of Election Officials honored Goldman with the Robert J. Antonetti Sr. Outstanding Achievement award for her dedication and service.

“For 43 years, Abigail Goldman was a quiet force behind Baltimore City elections,” Baltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer (D-5th) wrote on social media. “She put in the long hours, did the difficult work, and helped make sure our elections ran as smoothly and fairly as possible. Abigail’s ethics, dedication, and commitment to public service were unmatched. Baltimore City has truly lost a gem. May her memory be a blessing.”

Goldman is survived by her sister, Beth (Nathan) Adler. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, Judy and Hershel “Harry” Goldman.

Services were held on Sunday at Sol Levinson’s Chapel in Pikesvillle. Interment at Chevra Ahavas Chesed Cemetery in Randallstown.

The family will received guests at 3315 Bonnie Road in Northwest Baltimore through Friday at  5 pm.
