The days may be hot … vacations are back on … and many of us are looking for things to do, now that we are beginning to socialize again. With two months left before school starts up, The Associated and its agencies have much to do that might pique your interest.
Get Outdoors and Celebrate
Mark your calendars for an evening of music with family and friends at Pearlstone on Sunday, July 25 at 5:30 p.m. Hear from local bands, bring a picnic and catch up at The Associated’s Summer Music Fest-Here for Good. Get tickets for Summer Music-Fest at associated.org/musicfest. And don’t forget, Gordon Outdoors returns for the second year. Enjoy classics, adventure and popular movies on the Big Screen, Saturday evenings this summer. For a lineup of films go to GordonCenter.com.
Pull Up a Chair
Whether you are on your way to the beach or lounging by the pool, put on your AirPods and Pull Up a Chair and listen to the stories of our community. Hear from the couple who met over their love of baseball… the Bagel Boys who share memories of the “good old days in Baltimore,” the CHANA domestic abuse survivor. Community members like Bean, Steve and Lauren Sibel — three generations of Baltimoreans — and Harriette Wienner and Dixie Leikach, share their stories. Go to associated.org/pullupachair.
Read a Good Book
This summer, why not have your children dive into a good book and win prizes too? The Macks Center for Jewish Education (CJE) is once again offering its Summer Reading program, “Sense”ational” with this year’s theme centered around the senses. Pre-order your books for curbside delivery or schedule an appointment to browse the CJE library. Each child will receive a gift bag with a Jewish sensory activity. These may range from an Eye Spy game to find Jewish symbols in the community to a cinnamon stick to smell and create applesauce for Rosh Hashanah. Need a recommendation for your kids? CJE also will put together a bundle of books based on age, reading level and interests.
CJE Summer Reading program runs through September 5. Go to cjebaltimore.org to learn more.
Make a Difference
In your home or out … what better time to start giving back than in the summer? Jewish Volunteer Connection offers many ways to make a difference. Check out its Live with Purpose program, projects you can do in the home with your family. In July, make a Kindness Kit that will be delivered to Sarah’s Hope Mount Street or Living Classrooms. August is tie-dye mask month. Or, if you have more time, check out other opportunities, like calling Meals on Wheels clients or bagging meals for underserved clients. Go to jvcbaltimore.org to learn more.
A Place for Teens
What a difference a year makes! This summer, teens may finally be able to get together, socialize and meet new friends. Check out the 4Front and Gordon Outdoors Teen Movie Nights featuring a special teen section to watch the movie, enjoy free snacks and hang out with friends. Or enjoy a private outdoor pool party, exclusively for teens, during one of two 4Front Swim Nights. Learn more at 4frontbaltimore.org.
