It’s something you may take for granted. But when you need a top-notch physician or a world-class medical center, you can rest assured in knowing just how highly rated Maryland’s health care system is.

According to a study conducted by the personal finance website WalletHub.com, Maryland ranks fifth in the nation, based on the variables of “cost, access and outcomes.”

From new facilities to expanded programming to state-of-the-art surgical techniques, Maryland’s hospitals are continually seeking to enhance the services they provide not only to Marylanders but to patients from around the world who come here seeking the quality care that may be unavailable to them elsewhere.

For Jmore’s annual Innovations in Health Care issue, we take a look at what’s new and groundbreaking at some of the region’s top-ranked health care institutions.
