Dr. Meyer Reuben Heyman, a local oncologist and hematologist who served as the Orioles’ team physician for a quarter-century, passed away on Thursday, May 22. The Sykesville resident was 79.
A Baltimore native, Dr Heyman attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and graduated with cum laude honors in June of 1970.
He then held a commission in the U.S. Air Force as a physician, serving at installations in Illinois and Texas.
During his career, Dr. Heyman was affiliated with several local hospitals, including the University of Maryland Medical Center and St. Agnes Hospital.
“With a career spanning 49 years as an accomplished hematologist and oncologist, Dr. Heyman impacted the lives of thousands of patients during his time spent at the University of Maryland and St. Agnes Hospital cancer centers,” his family wrote on the memorial page for Sol Levinson & Bros. “Meyer R. Heyman M.D. will be remembered as a loving husband and grandfather, skilled physician, caring mentor, trusted colleague, and good friend.”
Dr. Heyman is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Cheryl S. Heyman; his stepson, Louis Hoover; and his grandchildren Dylan Perry, Liam Perry, and Wyatt Perry.
Services will be at Sol Levinson’s Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, at noon on Tuesday, May 27. Interment will be at Beth Yehuda Anshe Kurland Cemetery, at 6700 Bowleys Lane in Rosedale.
