Joel Glazer, a local aeronautics engineer and former president of the Greengate Community Association, passed away on Tuesday, June 3. He was 83.

A Tel Aviv native, Glazer graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. He received a master’s degree in computer science and management sciences from the Johns Hopkins University in 1976, and worked as an engineer at the Northrop Grumman Corp. for 32 years.

“Joel Glazer lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep generosity and unwavering devotion to his family and community,” his family posted on the website of Sol Levinson & Bros. “He was a man who gave everything he had for the good of others, whether through his work as a talented aerospace engineer, his leadership as Greengate Association president, or simply as a loving presence in the lives of those who knew him.

“While carrying the weight of a difficult past, Joel never let hardship define him. He earned two master’s degrees while working full time, never once complaining, always focused on providing and supporting those he loved. His legacy is one of selflessness, resilience, and enduring love.”

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Z. Glazer (nee Ber); his children, Hillel (Jeanne) Glazer and Dr. Sharon Glazer (Tamas Karpati); his brothers, David (El) Glazer and Moses (Cookie) Glazer; his grandchildren, Liron, Jacob, Mali, Alexander, Mira and Sarah; his uncle and aunt, Mordechai (Ziporah) Glazer, and Sima (the late Yehuda) Glazer; and his cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Rose Glazer.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Sol Levinson’s Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville. Interment at United Hebrew Cemetery at 6300 Hamilton Avenue in Rosedale.

Contributions in Joel Glazer’s memory may be sent to Friends of the IDF, P.O. Box 4224, New York, New York 10163, the Baltimore Zionist District, 104 Church Lane, Pikesville, Maryland 21208, the Edward A. Myerberg Center, 3101 Fallstaff Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21209, or Moses Montefiore Anshe Emunah Hebrew Congregation, 7000 Rockland Hills Drive, Baltimore, Maryland 21209.

The family will be in mourning at 2021 Jolly Road in Greengate from Wednesday to Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., except no Friday and Saturday evening at 9:30 p.m., Thursday to Tuesday mornings at 7:30 a.m., except no Saturday morning and Sunday morning at 9.

In a post, the MMAE congregation wrote, “Joel was a strong but quiet man who was always concerned about the entire community. MMAE is in Greengate, and aside from being a member of MMAE, Joel was the president of the Greengate Association. So we had many dealings where Joel would make a thoughtful suggestion or two to bridge any problems. … We will miss seeing Joel and pray that warm memories of him provide a measure of comfort for the entire extended Glazer family.”
