Rabbi Ezra D. Neuberger of Ner Israel Rabbinical College Dies at 68

Rabbi Ezra D. Neuberger, a major leader at Pikesville’s Ner Israel Rabbinical College for more than three decades, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 29. He was 68.

Rabbi Neuberger served as rosh kollel, or head of the yeshiva’s institute for advanced Torah scholarship for married men. He was also Ner Israel’s senior maggid shiur, or Torah and Talmud lecturer.

Rabbi Neuberger was a member of the family dynasty that has led Ner Israel since its inception in 1933. He was the youngest son of Rabbi Herman N. Neuberger, who was president of Ner Israel from 1940 until his death in October of 2005.

Rabbi Ezra Neuberger was appointed rosh kollel in 1994 by Rabbi Yaakov S. Weinberg, the yeshiva’s late rosh yeshiva, or head of the yeshiva.

He is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Miriam Neuberger (nee Hershkowitz), and their children, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Neuberger, Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Neuberger, Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda Neuberger, Rabbi Avi Neuberger, Rabbi Menachem Neuberger, Mrs. Ahuva Goldberger, Mrs. Chaya Yehudis Gruenebaum, Mrs. Shira Gruenebaum, Mrs. Adina Schulman, Mrs. Rochel Deutsch, and Malka Neuberger.

He was predeceased by his parents, Judith and Rabbi Herman Neuberger.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the beis midrash, or study hall, at Ner Israel, 400 Mount Wilson Lane in Pikesville. A livestream of the funeral will be available at nirc.edu/stream.

Interment will be at United Hebrew Cemetery, 3901 Washington Blvd in Halethorpe.
