Hot Stuff!
Now that it’s almost officially summer, many of us are looking forward to sun-drenched days at the beach or pool, balmy nights on the town, and pretty but fuss-free professional looks. Jmore beauty guru Ariel Lewis shows us how to look calm, cool, confident and gorgeous when the heat is on!
Summer Hair
Beach waves are all the rage! Get this sexy look by using a curling iron with a large barrel (1½ to 2 inches) such as Ariel’s current favorite, the Paul Mitchell Express Ion Curl XL.
Ariel’s Beach Waves:
- Shampoo and condition your hair.
- Let your hair air-dry or blow-dry it on a cool or low-temperature setting, to protect it from too much heat exposure. (If your hair is super-frizzy and unmanageable, blow-dry it a day before curling.)
- Divide your hair into four even sections. Then divide each section in two. Use a hair tie to keep sections separated.
- Start from the roots using the curling iron’s barrel to work your way down your strands creating 3-4 waves per section.
- Forego the heavy hairspray. Instead, opt for a sea salt solution such as R+Co’s Rockaway Salt Spray. This will keep your waves looking soft and natural. Find it at Nordstrom or Sephora.
Summer Makeup
Ariel’s pool rules:
Planning on swimming? Consider going bare-faced. Embrace your natural beauty and have fun without feeling self-conscious. Who needs to be thinking about the black mascara that’s running down your face when you’re playing Marco Polo with your kids? Remember: Confidence is the sexiest makeup!
That withstanding, if you do choose to wear makeup at the pool or on the beach, consider these recommendations:
- Instead of a liquid foundation that will melt in the heat, use a light BB cream or mineral makeup with SPF. Innisfree Mineral Sun Waterproof BB Cream is a good choice.
- Use a matte rather than a shimmery bronzer (too light reflective) applied to your cheeks and forehead. Bobbi Brown Medium 2 looks great on many complexion tones.
- Use brow pencil if needed
- Protect sun-sensitive lips from harmful UV rays with a lip gloss or balm with SPF.
