Maryland’s only professional ballet company presents “Coppélia,” the beautiful and comedic story of two young lovers, a wacky inventor and his daughter. Originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon with music of Léo Delibes, and a libretto by Charles-Louis-Étienne Nuitter the ballet was first performed in Paris in 1870. The libretto is based on “Der Sandmann,” a short story by E.K.A. Hoffmann.

This year’s Baltimore Jewish Film Festival will again be virtual. But there is an upside. You can view festival offerings at your own pace. The festival opens with “Persian Lessons” in which a young man pretends to be Persian to avoid being murdered in a concentration camp. “The Spy Behind Home Plate” tells the true story of Moe Berg, a professional baseball player who became a spy for the U.S. Office of Strategic Services during World War II. And “Kiss Me Kosher” centers on the relationship between Shira, a young Israeli, and her girlfriend Maria, who is German.

American Craft Marketplace

For the past two years, the pandemic forced the American Craft Council to move online. This year, craft marketplace fans will have a choice! The 45th annual American Craft Marketplace (now known as American Craft Made), will take place in person from May 20-22 and online from May 16-29. Browse and shop to your heart’s content in whatever way feels comfortable. You’ll find jewelry, textiles, fibers, clothing, ceramics, basketry, glass, leather goods, furniture and more, all handmade by top-notch artists and artisans. Best of all, this year, tickets to the event are free but must be reserved. Donations are welcome.
