To honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., members of Repair the World Baltimore joined forces with hundreds of volunteers from across the city last weekend to perform beautification projects in East Baltimore.
The overall effort was spearheaded by The 6th Branch, a veteran-led nonprofit that applies the characteristics of military service to perform community service initiatives.
Based on the Jewish precept of tikkun olam, Repair the World Baltimore is part of the national Repair the World movement, which engages Jewish young adults in community service and education to meet pressing local needs.
Along with Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott and others last weekend, Repair the World volunteers cleared debris, cut invasive weeds and helped prepare parks for springtime.
On Friday, Jan. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m., Repair the World Baltimore will co-host at Beth Am Synagogue, 2501 Eutaw Place, the “Baltimore’s Young Adult Shabbat of Love: Reflections on King’s Legacy.” Other hosts include BAYITT, JOC Mishpacha Project, BOLT and OneTable.
