Even sweltering hot temperatures could not stop hundreds of local Jewish activists and others from coming out and turning up the heat on ICE.
On Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3, the “ICE Out of Maryland Rally” was held in front of the George H. Fallon Federal Building at downtown’s Hopkins Plaza. (The Baltimore field office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is located in the Fallon Building.)

The gathering was held in in observance of Tisha B’Av, the national Jewish day of mourning, to demonstrate resistance to the ongoing attacks against immigrant communities in Maryland and around the nation.

The program included a mincha afternoon prayer service, learning sessions about ways to support immigrants in the fight against the ICE, and other activities.

The rally was spearheaded by Jews United for Justice, and co-sponsored by Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation, Am Kolel, the Baltimore Jewish Cultural Havurah, Beth Am Synagogue, BHC Justice, Bolton Street Synagogue, Chevrei Tzedek Congregation, Chizuk Amuno Social Justice Advocacy, East Bank Havurah, Har Sinai Oheb Shalom, Hinenu Baltimore, Kol HaLev, the New Synagogue Project and Oseh Shalom.

Among those leading the services were Rabbi Dr. Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi, Chevrei Tzedek’s Rabbi Marci Jacobs and Rabbi Emily Stern of Kol HaLev.
