O Say, Have You Seen … Maryland?

This year, Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland celebrates its centennial anniversary. (Provided photo)

They say you know you’re truly a Marylander when a) you put Old Bay Seasoning on virtually everything; b) think it’s strange when hearing folks sing the national anthem without shouting a deafening “O!”; c) have a natural affinity and talent for cornhole; d) can’t stuff enough Berger’s cookies or snowballs into your mouth; e) find yourself inexplicably drawn into violent throwdowns over whether chocolate or jelly icing should be baked into rainbow cake; and f) believe you can actually hear Mr. Trash Wheel talk.

Still, Maryland is a lot more than cornhole and Old Bay.

It’s scenic shorelines and picturesque towns, bustling cities and suburban sprawl, mountain peaks and marshy preserves, untamed ponies at Assateague and frigid slopes of Western Maryland, fine dining and greasy spoons, boutique shopping and outlets, super highways and country roads.

More than any other official or unofficial designation, Maryland lives up to its nickname of “America in Miniature.”

It’s only 250 miles long and 100 miles wide, but Maryland has a lot to offer. Now is the time to experience Maryland. Enjoy our annual “O Say Have You Seen … Maryland?” issue.
